Japanese Paintings and Prints

Eizan, Tiger, oban diptych woodblock print, c.1830

Japanese Paintings and Prints has been established for over 40 years and is a leading dealer in the field. They offer a wide variety of mid-range Japanese prints, with a particular focus on woodblock works. Examples date from the 18th to the 20th century and the artists represented include some of the greatest names of Japanese printmaking, such as Kunisada, Yoshitoshi, and Hiroshige. Artworks from the business have been bought by both major collectors of Japanese art and some of the UK’s leading museums, including the BM.
The business is currently located in Brighton and is owned by Japanese art expert Andre Bardega. Andre is himself a trained painter and printmaker, having graduated from Bath Academy and then the Courtauld Institute, where he specialised in conservation. His understanding of Japanese painting and print techniques was further honed through two and a half years spent in Tokyo, and today he currently advises some of the major auction houses and collectors in the UK.
