About the AGBI

The Artists’ General Benevolent Institution is one of the oldest charities in the UK. It was founded in 1814 by members of the Royal Academy of Arts including J.M.W Turner, John Constable and Sir John Soane, and continues to be run by a Council of artist professionals today.

The AGBI is delighted to be a charity partner of the Connect Art Fair. As an artist led charity, having this relationship is important. When times are good, no artist needs to think about AGBI, but when crisis hits, we are there to help.

Connect Art Fair generously raised £1,800 in January 2020. These funds went directly to help artists too ill to work, art materials, essential living costs and studio rents are the items most frequently supported by the AGBI.
— Brad Feltham, Secretary of the AGBI

Their Mission

The AGBI was established in order to financially support professional artists and their dependents who cannot work or earn due to accidents, illness or old age. The Council meet regularly to discuss cases, and in the financial year 2018-2019 the charity supported a total of 115 artists and their families.

For more information visit the AGBI website.

How we’re helping

As our designated charity partner, all proceeds from any ticket sales on the door will go towards the AGBI. A limited edition of the AGBI bicentenary print will also be available for purchase - the collaborative work of 42 artists, this piece is signed by a host of celebrated British names including Peter Blake CBE RA, Michael Craig-Martin RA and Maggi Hambling CBE.

Fair Partners

Aubury’s

Aubury & Associates Ltd have designed, produced and constructed high-quality bespoke stands at galleries and exhibitions in both the UK and abroad since 1985. Past clients include The European Fine Art and Antiques Fair in Maastricht, Saatchi Fairs & Exhibitions and Sotheby’s Auction House.

We are pleased to welcome Cooks and Partners as Connect’s caterers. Cooks & Partners began with Simon Goggin’s determination to regain control over the ingredients that he was working with. After 19 years working as an Executive Chef for a big London caterer, Simon decided to go it alone and break free from the supply chain. This was largely due to the constraints that often meant gross profit came before taste.
