Opened by Francis Iles in Chatham in 1961, the gallery started by selling work from Sir William Russell Flint and Rowland Hilder, forging a reputation for offering unpretentious but impeccable quality artworks. Francis Iles Galleries is now located in Rochester and is run by Francis’ three daughters, but the business maintains its focus on high-quality and accessible works to this day. Today the gallery shows a wide variety of styles from a selection of contemporary British masters, including Alison Griffin, Jill Barthorpe and Michael Chaplin. As well as exhibiting paintings, sculpture and glass from well-established UK artists, the gallery is proud to represent the incredible talent of a number of Russian artists. The gallery regularly stages exhibitions on its featured artists, and also can be found represented at fairs in the capital.
