Describe your business?
We are a husband and wife team based in rural Hertfordshire near the Henry Moore foundation, where Mel also works. We specialise in mainly Modern British and contemporary art. We have a converted stable block that now serves as a gallery open for viewing by appointment.
How much do you enjoy art fairs?
Greatly …..we love meeting people and we can talk about Art all day, what is there to not enjoy? This fair is particularly exciting as it brings together galleries like ourselves who mainly operate online. It allows us to meet clients face to face and to offer high quality art direct to London collectors at affordable prices. What a great concept!
Is this what you wanted to be when you grew up?
Actually, Mark wanted to be Jackie Stewart and Mel wanted to be Margot Fonteyn.
Your favourite artwork is?
Mel’s is her Lucy Kemp Welch pencil portrait of a pony called Toby, which happens to be Mel’s own horses name. For Mark it has to be one of the tiny works in Jim Edes house at Kettles Yard in Cambridge by the wonderful Ben Nicholson.
Dixon of Dock Green or line of duty?
Mel would say Cagney & Lacy, while Mark says Morse or Ashes to Ashes, having retired as a senior Detective at Scotland Yard. ……….. Mel, “Fire up the Quattro!”
